Every GPS tracker we read needs a paid plan. The cheapest device, the cheapest with a plan price we could read, and the cheapest with a month of battery.

Type "dog GPS tracker" into Google in the U.S. and "no subscription" is the first suggestion after it. The honest answer from the five cellular trackers we read on November 7, 2026 is that each needs a plan, and that most stores do not print its price on the product page. We have not used any of these trackers.

How we compare: criteria, sources and dates

Device price plus the monthly plan for 36 months, minus the 3 months PetSafe includes [calc]. Halo's published floor is $9.99 a month, so its real total sits near the $10 column; for the others, use the column closest to the quote you get at checkout, or enter it in the 3-year cost calculator.

What each brand requires

Not in this check

Tractive (its store showed us euro prices only from where we read it), Garmin, AirTag-style Bluetooth tags and GPS fence collars such as SpotOn. If a tracker claims no fee, look for how it reaches your phone: Bluetooth tags and radio handhelds carry no data plan; none of the cellular trackers we read works without one. Every tracker, with the other pet devices: the comparison; sizes for your dog: which one fits my pet.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a dog GPS tracker with no monthly fee?

Not among the cellular GPS trackers we read. Halo: "A Pack Membership Plan is required for every collar to activate and maintain GPS services and cellular data." PetSafe: "Subscription Required (3-Month Trial Included)". Fi sells its collar as a membership. Tracking over a cellular network costs the brand a data line, which is what the plan pays for. Devices sold as GPS fences, or Bluetooth tags, follow other rules and are not in this check.

How much does a dog GPS tracker cost per month?

Of the brands we read, only Halo printed a plan price we could read on its store: "Plans start at $9.99/mo", with annual billing giving "1 month of membership free". PetSafe lists "three flexible plans after trial ends" without prices on the product page; Fi's and PetLink's prices were not readable by our script. We give 3-year totals at $5, $10 and $15 a month so you can place the quote you get.

Which GPS tracker has the longest battery life?

As published: Fi Series 3+ "up to 3 months", PetSafe GPS Dog Tracker "up to 30-day battery life", Halo Collar 5 "up to 48 hours" and Halo Collar 4 up to 40 hours (Halo also says to charge it overnight). Battery figures are the brands' and depend on settings.

Is a GPS tracker worth it for a dog that never runs off?

That is your call, not ours: we can only price it. At $10 a month the plan alone is $360 over three years [calc], more than every device except the Halo collars.
